5 Easy Hair and Makeup Tips to Boost Confidence

I preach that self love is the way to go in ALL that we do.  I wholeheartedly believe that if we care for our inner selves first, our outside will radiate with all of the love we’re giving our bodies.

That being said, sometimes you just need a little pick-me-up.  I’m a girly-girl at heart… and I love any little “extras” than can boost your mood on a rainy day, or help you get dolled up, just because you feel like it.  You deserve that!

Summer is the time to embrace natural beauty, since we’re running around, at the beach, or trying to stay cool in 90 degree weather (and humidity… which was the bane of my existence ‘til I learned not to fight it!)

Here are my top 5 hair and makeup tips to feel confident this summer...

(without going full-glam mode in the heat)

  1. Sea Salt Spray: This tip has been a summertime lifesaver since I was a teenager. During the hotter months, let your hair hang loose in comfortable styles and messy buns! Sea Salt Spray will keep those curls in tact and make it look like you just stepped off the beach (so hot!).

  2. Lip Gloss: Dry lips are a no-no.  I keep chapstick in every pocket, every purse and every corner of my house to avoid them.  And for a little extra glam- no other makeup required- I love a pretty lip gloss. Keeping lip gloss nearby will boost your confidence when chatting with friends over some cocktails on the patio!

  3. Tinted Moisturizer: We all deal with the occasional breakout or uneven skin tone.  If you’re comfortable rocking nothing but moisturizer on your face, I say go for it!  Less makeup is always a WIN in my book. Often I’ll just add a little concealer under my eyes, a bit of blush, and I’m good to go!  On a day when you do want a little more coverage (but not thick foundation that can cake in the heat) a tinted moisturizer is the way to go. Pro Tip: If you don’t have tinted moisturizer, you can mix just a small amount of foundation with your lotion and voila!  I just LOVE the dewy look of fresh, glowing skin.

  4. Sunscreen: Protecting your skin is a MUST.  I never leave the house without SPF on my face.  Sunscreen protects against free radicals and harmful UV light in the sun, and helps prevent the appearance of aging.  Sign me up, please! While you’re taking such good care of yourself, take care of Mother Earth too, with an eco-friendly, clean, non-toxic sunscreen.  (Did you know a lot of sunscreens can kill coral reefs?! Yikes.)

  5. Add Braids: If you need a cute, quick, easy style, AND want to keep your hair out of your face, add a braid!  Anywhere, really. Braids make it look like you spent a lot of extra time on your hair and will always yield a compliment or two!  Plus, since they’re so effortlessly chic and keep your hair in place, what more do you need?

The most important thing this Summer is to smile, laugh a lot, and create memories with loved ones. If there’s a day you need a little extra confidence boost, check out the blog post I wrote about feeling good in your body RIGHT NOW!
